This new roof in Newmanstown PA went on without a hitch. Smucker’s Exterior & Remodeling was happy to serve Dave by replacing his roof and the roof on his shed. Smucker’s Exteriors is a 5 Star Amish roofing contractor and has been serving Lancaster, Chester, and Berks counties in Pennsylvania for more than 15 years.
The idea of getting a new roof may be intimidating to you but with Smucker’s Exteriors, it’s a breeze. We walk you through every step of the process and make sure that you understand everything that is going on. We make sure that you are in the know from the beginning to the end of the project.
STEP 1: REMOVING DAVE’S OLD ROOF
Before we could install this new roof in Newmanstown PA we had to strip off all the old layers of shingles. Smucker’s Exteriors is very intentional about keeping our job sites clean and neat, we made sure to clean up all the old shingles and damaged roof decking that didn’t initially make it into the roofing buggy.
STEP 2: REPAIRING UNDERLYING ROOF DECKING WATER DAMAGE
Once we had all the old shingles removed we were able to assess the state of Dave’s roof decking. Roof decking is the wooden layer underneath the shingles of the roof. What often happens to an older roof that begins to fail is water gets in under the shingles when it rains and water damage begins to affect the roof decking.
Roof damage can occur in a number of ways such as shingles wearing out, shingles breaking off due to high winds, debris falling on the roof, and damaging the integrity of the shingles or the effects of simply aging. Whatever the cause, once your roof integrity is in question and it begins to leak you could be in trouble.
Water damage will eventually break through the roof decking and begin to attack the structure of your home. This can lead to much more serious problems. It is best to protect your home by repairing damaged sections of your roof when you first notice them or replacing your aging roof altogether.
Thankfully, Dave’s roof decking was not in terrible shape. There were sections that had water damage setting in that we had to completely replace but the majority of his roof decking was intact and strong.
STEP 3: INSTALLING DAVE’S NEW ROOF IN NEWMANSTOWN PA
Once all of Dave’s roof decking was in tip-top shape it was time to begin installing his new roof! Smucker’s Exteriors is certified to install Certainteed Roofing materials and we use Certainteed in most of our roof replacement projects. The first thing we did was install a Certainteed roof runner over Dave’s roof decking. This is an added layer of protection that will help to protect his home from future damage and extend the life of his new roof.
The next step was to add the new shingles to Dave’s roof installation. Certainteed asphalt shingles were the choice shingles to use because they have an excellent reputation for durability and longevity. We completed this new roof in Newmanstown PA with a beautiful ridge cap of Certainteed shingles as well! The same steps were performed as we replaced Dave’s shed roof.
